TOMF Announces Second January Trustee Award Winner
January 31, 2017
At its most recent meeting, TOMF’s Grants, Scholarships, and Awards Committee decided to distribute two Trustee Awards in the month of January. In addition to St. Luke’s Home, the Arizona Theatre Company was awarded a $1,500 grant to partially support their “YOUTH ON THE EDGE – RELEASING THE PAIN” project.
This project engages at-risk, disadvantaged, and marginalized youth from the south side of Tucson through the dramatic arts. The Arizona Theatre Company Education team uses theatre arts, including emotional, oral, written, and cultural literacy, as a vehicle in which teenagers enact positive development and lead change in their communities. Expected to serve over 200 youth, this program and its activities are aligned with the Arizona Department of Education Standards for Theatre Arts, Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies and Humanities.
Along with the grant funds, Arizona Theatre Company will also be invited to join the Trustee Award Collaboration, a group of past grant winners that convenes bi-monthly to share nonprofit resources, strategies, and support.
The Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation revived the Trustee Award grant-giving program in 2013 as part of its efforts to support the local nonprofits that improve public health in Tucson. These grants are awarded monthly and have benefited nearly 50 organizations.
