Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation Announces Return of Founders' Scholarships
October 5, 2017
Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation is thrilled to announce that the Founders’ Scholarships program will be returning for fiscal year 2017-2018. The Scholarships are given to honor the Founders of Tucson General Hospital, who established the Hospital in order to advance osteopathic medicine in southern Arizona. TOMF aims to encourage the next generation of DOs and inspire the same leadership embodied by the Tucson General Hospital Founders. A total of $25,000 will be awarded to osteopathic medical students in the 2017-2018 academic year. There are some exciting changes to the scholarship criteria that will be beneficial for osteopathic medical students.
In addition to the existing $5,000 scholarships for osteopathic medical students at A.T. Still University – SOMA and Midwestern University – AZCOM with long term ties to Arizona, a special $2,500 scholarship has been developed that will be dedicated to third year students rotating through southern Arizona for at least half of the current academic year.
A brief bio is a new requirement for the application. This provides applicants with the opportunity to share some information about who they are and allows for a more personalized submission.
The final award decisions will now be made in January, which will allow for the awards to be given prior to the beginning of the next academic year. This gives students the ability to make financial arrangements in advance.
TOMF is eagerly awaiting the applicant submissions and is looking forward to having the opportunity to aid hard-working students with the financial obligation that comes along with being in medical school.
